Learn To Sail The RYA Way
Founded in 1875 by Frank Willen and others the RYA - Royal Yachting Association - is today well established as the leading governing body and authority for all things boating in Britain. Enjoying a similar role to the FA in the world of football. And a key part of their remit is to get more people sailing and learning to sail by encouraging schools and academies around the world to seek RYA accreditation. Which then enables them in turn to offer RYA courses and learn to sail holidays at some excellent locations worldwide.
For anyone planning to learn to sail will find that RYA Courses are the gold standard providing a seal of approval and quality. And over the years sailing schools have started to establish themselves in locations other than the UK in order to attract students. For example it is now possible to take RYA Sailing Courses in locations as far afield as Lanzarote, which is a tiny little island in the Canaries chain, just off the west coast of Africa.
Indeed Lanzarote also offers plenty to do off the water as well as an enjoyable location for learning to sail. Thanks to the fact that there are loads of unusual visitor attractions to explore. The best of which were developed by a famous island born artist called Cesar Manrique, who worked in tandem with the surreal volcanic terrain of the island to create Lanzarote´s six main cultural sites. The best known of which are probably the Jameos del Agua, Timanfaya National Park and the Mirador del Rio.
Born in Arrecife the island capital in 1919 Manrique fell in love with Lanzarote as a young child. When he spent long summers on the beach at Famara on the North West of the island where his parents had a holiday home. Here he would play in the rock pools, delighting in the reflection of the Famara cliffs in the tide. All of which helped to fire his creativity - as it is till possible to detect some of these colours and textures in his paintings today.
As well as being an artist and architect of some renown, Manrique also campaigned to ensure the island did not go the commercial route of it neighbours.
The fact that the island has remained unspoilt as much as possible is one of the reasons that many visitors return to the island time and time again.
