National Geographic Channel Australian Competition 2012
Once again the National Geographic Channel Australian competition 2012 runs from between 26th March to the 4th April 2012. Entries for this competition will close on the 29th February 2012. Primary teachers that are interested in participating can go onto the website or contact the organizers directly. The website provides you with all the relevant information needed as well as how to enter the competition. This competition is a joint initiative of the Australian GTA and the RGS of Queensland and is proudly sponsored by the National Geographic Channel. The competition is open to integrated social science students and secondary geography students in Australia, and the competition promotes the study of geography, and the
competition 2012 Australia
hope to exceed the 80 000 2011 applicants. The competition comprises of multiple questions on geographical skills and knowledge. All participants are awarded with certificates and an all expenses trip will be awarded to the best student which will attend the biennial World Championship for National Geographic’s and represent Australia. The students in second position will play off the students in third place. The national Geographic Society sponsor and organize this fantastic competition. The best senior male and female students from each state will participate in Geography’s Big Week Out which includes hands on stimulating geographical activities. Students from the Big Week Out will in turn be selected for the Geography International Olympiads as well as the Geography Asia Pacific Regional Olympiads. There is however a small entrance fee of $2.50. Students will be well rewarded for their excellence and the competition is to stimulate and promote geography in Australian schools. There are fantastic prizes up for grabs such as overseas trips to the following National Geographic Championship, certificates for your portfolios, books, medals and trips to Melbourne and Sydney. Students that excel in this competition can expect to win these great prizes. Students need to complete and submit their answer sheets the beginning of May. Finalists will be notified the beginning of June 2012.
So, all senior and secondary students that are geography enthusiasts, and those that are geography boffins, you now once again have the opportunity to win great prizes by displaying your skills and knowledge among thousands of other contestants.
