When You Need Tray Cable Learn Why The Cost Of Copper Matters So Much
Most people following the markets lately have noticed that commodity costs have been on a steady rise through the first part of this year. As vntc cable as well as tray cable, sow cable, soow cable, and welding cable are all heavily dependent on raw material costs, there has been quite a large increase in the pricing of these items.
Most of our long time customers are understandably aware of the effects of increasing commodity prices. Most important of course is the cost of copper. Today for instance copper was selling for about $4.30 per pound on the COMEX. At this level it is hovering near its all time closing high of around $4.60 lb hit just a few weeks ago at the start of 2011. The question on everyone's mind is how much higher can it go.
A close second to copper in electronic cable manufacturing is the cost of petrochemicals or oil. As the outer sheathing and insulating material of most cables are oil based, the cost of oil plays a big role in finished price also. Oil of course topped out at about $147 per barrel just 2 1/2 short years ago and right now is on the rise again primarily due to problems in the Middle East and North Africa. Oil right now sells for around $104 per barrel.
Assuming the economy keeps improving, it is very likely that we will witness a continued rise in these raw input costs. Most economists agree that we will continue to see a measured but steady rebound that will go on for the rest of 2011 and beyond.
Many emerging economies are also seeing better days with China of course being the largest in terms of economic growth. If we stay on this current trajectory it is reasonable to believe that copper and oil will continue to increase in cost. If you are a big buyer of the larger types of wire and cable it may behoove you to take a look at projected usage for the rest of this year and maybe consider stocking up now before we start to see the big cost increases.
How can you capitalize on this knowledge? When you see prices decline on the NYMEX, make sure that the company you are buying from is reducing the costs of their finished products to you. Often, companies are more apt to raise prices than to lower them. Now knowing what raw materials cost, make sure that your supplier is pricing their wire and cable appropriately.
When you see there is a disparity in the cost of the raw commodities and your finished product price, consider reaching out to another supplier for a competitive bid. There are quite a few players who sell tray cable and vntc cable. This diligence on your part may help you retain more profit in your pocket. Additionally, knowing about falling prices can allow you to lower your job quotes, which may make your bid more competitive than your peers – and allow you come out on top more often.
