Brand New Nikon D5100 Digital SLR Camera First Glance
More and more people are getting into digital SLR cameras because the quality over a pocket point and shoot is so much greater. It used to be at least $1000 to buy an entry-level DSLR, but these days you can get a high quality camera from Canon, Sony or Nikon as an example for a little less than $1000 simply. The Nikon D5100 is targeted at the lower-mid end of the spectrum, and looks like it's going to be exceedingly popular.
The D5100 has so many great features crammed into it, it's difficult to believe it's less than $1000 complete along with an 18-55mm lens. Some of the features include a 16.2MP CMOS sensor, a large three inch adjustable viewscreen, in-camera HDR and HD video with continuous auto-focusing!
The D5100 works with all available Nikkor lenses, but can autofocus only with AF-S and AF-I lenses as it doesn't contain an autofocus motor within the body. This shouldn't ever set a challenge, just make sure that you buy this sort of lens when upgrading.
The HD movie capacity includes continuous auto-focus, which is really incredible when you consider it. This is a DSLR camera, and it may be employed as a mpeg recorder as well... Very cool. Yes quite a few DSLRs can shoot video, and even HD; but can those DSLRs auto-focus when shooting video or have you got to do it by hand? Make sure you check before buying!
HDR is incredible, but I have been having a tough time getting it to work with my aim and click camera. In-camera HDR does all the work for you! Two bracketed exposures are taken back to back, and then the camera combines them into a single HDR image that shows enhanced details from shadow and highlights. These shots usually look superb and really give a 'WOW!' factor to your photos.
Many people are resolution crazy.... Simply because one camera has a higher megapixel ( MP ) count does not mean it's better. Please keep that in mind when looking for a new camera.
Image resolution means the maximum size possible; for this camera it's 16.2 MP ( million pixels, or thousands of pixels ) or 4928 x 3264. That could be a ENORMOUS image! If you post an image online, sometimes it's only about 400 x three hundred ; and the size of your complete desktop on your PC is probably about 1024 x 768. So what this implies is that the photographs taken by this camera at max resolution are about 4 times bigger than you can see at 100% on your desktop screen!
Please note that a bigger image doesn't instantly mean a better image. If you have a crap camera with a crummy lens however it takes giant photos it doesn't mean they are good.
Image-quality on the Nikon D5100 fortunately is excellent. Nikon works at keeping client level camera quality high in order that they can compete with Canon and Sony in the ever-expanding marketplace. Nobody wants to put out a poor quality $900 camera, that's not in doubt.
Is the Nikon D5100 worth purchasing? Yes, it is! The camera has a great listing of attributes, quality lenses, and is easy to just pick up and use. These days I find myself recommending Nikon DSLRs over Canon and Sony, and I see no reason to not give the D5100 an enormous thumbs up as well . If you're ever wanting Nikon digital camera repair or even DSLR camera repair then a fast Google search or two and you should find exactly what you need.
