Video Games Shows People How to Be a Drummer

Video gaming systems have really improved since we first played Pong, PacMan and all of the other classics. Who could have thought up years ago that a video game could be used to learn new skills?

Rock Band is not only a game that is exciting to play, but it has been said by Harmonix Music that if you can play the Rock Band drum set on the 'hard' setting, you can pretty much play the drums for real! Question is though are you really playing the drums, or just copying the pattern you see on the screen? If you can master the video game drumming, it doesn't mean that in you will be able to sit at a real drum set and be able to play. To play real drums you need to be able to read music. which you won't learn playing a game; excellent coordination and rhythm. If you can't read music you may never be able to be in a band unless you are musically gifted and able to hear what to play. Most bands these days no longer use electronic drum kits such as were popular in the 80's. A real drum kit gives you actual control over the sound of the notes, their length, volume and more.

Even a basic drum kit is far more advanced than the Guitar Hero or Rock Band drum kit. For a non-musician, I'm sure the mental image of a real drum kit is overwhelming! Imagine sitting on stage with your drums, with the knowledge that your band and adoring fans all rely on you. If you get to that point you must be a good drummer, but for a beginner even the Rock Band drum kit can be too much.

The basics of playing the drums is as simple as keeping the beat. If you can keep rhythm, can you play the drums? Not really. A quality drummer adds their own touch to the song and enhances it as well as providing a base rhythm for the rest of the band to follow. You may not always notice the drums, but if you were to take them out of the song I think you would notice for sure!

So, will a video game teach you to play like a pro? Doubtful, but it can't hurt to practice. Get acquainted with the drums through the Playstation game, practice counting the beat, and you are on your way to stardom! Just don't forget to grab a replacement Guitar Hero cable before it breaks!
