The best fiction fantasy books are the ones that speak more about reality than fiction, not just what is wrong with reality, but how we can get our reality right.
Creator, by Michael Hills, is a fiction fantasy book as is Perfume by Suskind. Following the life of a truly gifted abomination both books are very alike, although Creators character is only abominable on the outside, he is actually the exact opposite to to Perfumes abomination.
There are a lot of similarities. In both stories the main characters have very special abilities, magical powers, and stories take place in a historical setting, and both are mixed with mystery, fantasy and murder, although there is more fantasy in Creator.
Both these stories delve deeper into the spiritual, deeper meanings, and are told in the framework of fantasy, but speaking about hard reality.
Creator takes it a step further to become a myth. Creator is a highly entertaining myth.
It has the top layer of the entertaining liner story line, and many layers beneath that, all of which are as significant as the other, all of which depends on the level of understanding the reader has to interpret them, and at that same time none of them need to be seen at all, in order to enjoy it.
Creator is the kind of book that you could read when you are young, and see a meaning in it. And then lets say ten years later you read it again, and you will probably see a completely different meaning in it, as you have gained experience, and your perspective has changed.
The bizarre thing is that the whole story ultimately revolves around one word, like the Bible, also being a myth, revolves around Love, yet Creator is a complex. There is a duality. Creators word is not love. It is a word that has enough power to destroy us all. At the same time, if we are able to take this word out of our speech, minds, and vocabulary, humanity would find true salvation. No I will not tell you what word it is. Sorry, just read the book.
I think Creator is so unique that it creates a category of its own. I call it CL: consciousness literature. Genre in CL is unimportant. What is vital is that the writer takes the reader to another level of consciousness through the writing.
