The First Steps To Do It Yourself Car Repair

Make sure you have a roll of black duct tape that you can get at any hardware store, as you will probably not have a way to remount it. If this sounds a bit funny, this tape can fix just about anything for the time being.
It worked for me one winter day when my pipe fell down. I held my muffler up onto the bottom of my car for quite some time until I could get it repaired properly. All you have to do is put on your park break, and find a spot near the break to wrap the tape around the pipe and a convenient place on the bottom of your car. This really does work. I think at one time they even were going to fix the space station with duct tape. Get the pipe fixed quickly. Do not drive around like that for long.
Know your limits with do it yourself car repair. If you do not understand the components to your car, It might be tough to fix. Generally pulling something apart is the easy part. Putting things back together as one is the hard part.
So when you do start pulling it apart get a piece of paper or cardboard, and place the parts on the paper in the order you took them apart, number and label them so you know in what order they go back together.
Do you have a user manual for your car? If not, get one! A lot can be known just by reading it. Study it!
Tightening a bolt, or screw is sometimes all you have to do. Or replacing a screw, so have extra fuses. The manual will show you where the fuse box is, which can be hard to find. So you must have tools with you. Get a ratchet set, a screw driver and a can of spray oil, which will help to lube rusty bolts. Jumper cables are a standard to have, don't forget them!
Being prepared is winning half the battle. It does not have to be difficult to do it yourself car repair, especially if you are ready for any eventuality. If you can’t get it fixed do not leave home without your cell phone. Ask how far the tow will be before you agree to be towed as it might cost a lot of money, more than the car is worth.
