Difficulty in urination, local skin or joint infection, fracture of the bone during and after surgery, scarring, and limitation of the range of motion of the hip are other complications that can result. With the requirement of anesthesia, heart arrhythmias, liver toxicity, and pneumonia can be associated with this.
The majority of complaints received by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the Pinnacle hip replacement focused on the premature loosening of the device from the bone, leading to failure of the device. It has been reported that one out of eight patients will need to undergo corrective surgery within five years after their initial hip replacement surgery.
