The Relaunch Was Declared Wed. By Officials With Longport Media LLC Who Took Control Of The 'Heritage Rock Station' Formerly Called The Shark And Four Other South Jersey Radio Stations May 13.

To mark its 50th anniversary, 103.7 WMGM-FM will relaunch August. Twenty-nine as WMGM Rocks : South Jersey's Home For The Best Rock.

The relaunch was declared Wed. by officers with Longport Media LLC who took command of the "heritage rock station" formerly known as The Shark and 4 other South Jersey radio stations May thirteen.

"The Shark has been harpooned," recounted Dave Coskey, president of Longport Media. "WMGM has outlined rock for this region for over 20 years, and our heritage call letters are something we are very happy with. The evolution of 103.7 will permit us to further position WMGM as the premier station for rock 'n' roll in South Jersey and all our coverage areas."

According to corporate officers, the re launch includes more than a new name.

The station will begin playing a remodeled playlist which will include classic-rock favourites like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones. But the station's musical preferences have expanded to include current rock artists e. G the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Dave Matthews Band, the Foo Fighters and others.

Coskey expounded the re-branding has begun with the integration of more recent artists during the day.

"We just felt there was a piece missing in South Jersey ... A station playing new rock and old rock," Coskey announced.

Director of Operations Paul Kelly expounded there is only one standards when it comes to what music will blast thru the airwaves : "If it rocks, we're going to play it."

Along with new music, list of radio stations will start local, in-house programming with more live DJs, bucking a local and countrywide trend of reducing on-air characters to save cash.

The new lineup :

"The Morning Edge" with JoJo and Scotty will air weekdays from 6 to ten a.m.

Sean Patrick will be live from 10 a.m. To 3 p.m.

Matt Murray will host from 3 to seven p.m.

Nikki Marra will round out the evening from seven p.m. To midnight.

The morning show marks a return for the team of Scott Reilly and Joe Borsello, who formerly hosted a morning show on WWAC 102.7-FM, which is also owned by Longport Media. Their morning show was canceled when the station changed formats from modern rock to Top forty under previous ownership.

Longport Media also owns news-talk station WOND-AM 1400, Spanish station WBSS-AM 1490 and classic hits station WTKU-FM 98.3.

Coskey announced Longport Media officers felt the change to WMGM was mandatory, but understood there had been a risk in changing a station which has existed nearly three decades.

"Obviously there is a bet whenever you make a change," he said. "We think that's a change that's long overdue in the market, and we're awfully optimistic." as reported tagza.com.
