When Chairs Are Intended For Staring Instead To Be Seated
Kenneth Cobonpue chairs are not made for sitting. Cobonpue chairs are made to enliven the house. When you see his designs, you’ll know why. And it’s not because his chairs are not comfortable, because they are. The creator of these funky chairs wants to embellish the house using his magnificent designs.
He is a master of design, this Cobonpue. Everything that he creates are made out meticulously with all the details. How one material is married to another. He is able to mix two different materials and combine it to a new and sturdy material. He doesn’t make furniture out of a simple plywood. He weaves together nylon and abaca or palm leaf with aluminum.
His creation "The Yoda" is made from steel and some rattan vines. He makes his craft without having to cut anything, just folds. Even the vines for the back rest were not tied up together and sealed. Looks are deceiving, and his designs will make you think that it cannot support you, The design looks so bizarre that you would think it is far from comfortable, which is going to prove you wrong once again. His design Yoda can be purchased in different types, be it in singles, high chair or a sofa.
Cobonpue’s funky chairs continue with Manolo, which the designer said was inspired by a woman’s sandal. The materials are woven rattan vines and mild steel bound together by leather. It has a low back with a cushion on stands made of the same materials designed in mirrored waves.
Even his stools are funky. Only a Cobonpue mind can make a simple stool like the most precious item ever. He designed another one, Chiquitia, which involves the likeness of bread sticking out a container that is made of paper. These are actually 350 pieces of rattan poles atop polyurethane cushions. If you sit on it the rattan will sink to the cushion. He made another one with a back rest for extra comfort.
Another set of funky chairs is from Cobonpue’s Bloom collection. By far this is the most elegant designs ever crafted. The design looks like a flower, ready to bloom. This design is made from steel, handmade microfiber and resin.
And the funkiest of them all is the Pigalle. I can’t even begin to describe what this looks like. It can be compared to an abstract art. It would be so hard to understand the design but just by looking at it makes you more relaxed already; the design is made from nylon and abaca. Pigalle is available as a single or a love seat. Don’t let the design fool you. This chair is actually very comfortable.
