For example, menstrual irregularities are not unusual in obese girls and women. This is a problem because the body has lots of interference in its normal hormone production. This then wreaks havoc on the girl or woman's menstrual cycle. Obesity makes women predisposed to these conditions. If the interference in the hormones is big, it is even possible for women to become sterile if they are obese. But also consider that if there is hormone disruption, then what is the impact on the rest of the female bodily processes that require hormones? The human body requires its hormone production to be normal in order to keep the body's metabolism functioning properly.
Scientists are trying to prove that, more so in girls than in boys, childhood obesity can play a role in early onset puberty. However, there's a particular amount of common sense to be had in looking at what we know. For example, we already know that obese kids and teens see puberty set in earlier and grow faster than other kids. It is a situation, though, in which definite causation needs to be defined. While this is obviously not a really serious threat to the health of obesity related conditions there are definitely issues that can be related to the early onset of puberty.
It is very important for kids who are suffering from obesity to find a trusted and qualified adult to talk to about their weight conditions. It is likely that you need some education as to the causes of your condition. Alternatively, something can be done about it, and it is never too late to begin the long journey back to good health.
