Cost Vs Benefit Of A Portable Stereo Recorder
When it comes to personal recorders, there are many choices out there. When you're looking for portable recorders, you want to know that it's handy and portable. So it intrigued us writing this review whether or not the Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder was worth the money, you know because it actually has handy and portable in the name. The idea behind the Zoom H2 is that it's supposed to provide stereo recording a very easy to use and portable device. We have to admit, there are a lot of applications for such a device. You could record seminars, conferences, college courses, electronic news gathering, podcasting, musical performances, songwriting and even rehearsals are all possible on the device. But what about the sound quality?
When we tested out the H2 sound quality, we were actually very impressed. It has very good recording quality, no matter what it is that you are recording. Both instruments and voices sounded great.
The Four Mics
We didn't know why the Zoom H2 needed four microphones. After all, many of the top recorders on the market only have two. Supposedly, the four microphones allow for 360 degree recording. That makes for some pretty interesting scenarios.
How Easy Is It To Use?
Ok, so the Zoom H2 Recorder sounds good, but is it truly handy? That is, is it really easy to use? The fact is, the only thing you need to do to start recording with the H2 is push a button. That's relieving since most devices make it pretty difficult to just start recording right away. In fact, some of the devices out there can be pretty complicated. With the H2, one button handles recording, and then there are controls on the side and an intuitive user interface that allows you to set the levels you want, press record and you're recording. It's that easy.
Is it Convenient?
Once we established that the H2 sounds good and that it is easy to use, we wanted to check it out further to see whether or not it is actually all that portable. Honestly, since it has four microphones, can it really be all that portable? Surprisingly, the H2 only weighs a whopping 4 ounces. It will easily fit into your pocket and it also comes with a stereo cable, earbuds, a tripod stand, a USB cable, a microphone clip adapter, an extra memory card and an AC adapter.
When we first tried out the Zoom H2 we were a little on the skeptical side because of all of the shoddy portable recorders we have tried in the past. However, we didn't have any of the same problems with the H2. It has great sound, 360 degree recording and it is extremely easy to use.
