In the present era of e-Learning, where there is less interaction between the teacher and the taught. Everything is moving towards virtual rather than real. There is less scope for a teacher to instill moral values.
Technological innovations and professionalism are must but we need to think a little where we are going?
We rarely come across any person who is ready to go for a BA course at the primary school level and become a Social worker. But we find many with the ambition of IIT and JEE.
Is money making only should be the objective for studies?
Seldom have we found people who are ready to learn History or Geography or Environmental studies.
If this is going to continue.. One day will come where we find lot of Engineers but no Doctors or Teachers or a social worker.
What is the future of our ethical values?
Why can’t the Universities frame one subject where the students can imbibe the moral values and develop empathy towards the needy in the society?
Today the class room interaction is only towards the technical subjects and neither the teacher nor the taught are worried about the morals.
Even after the class room interaction there are few students who come and interact with the teachers so that they can be trained like a Global citizen. The present curriculum gives very less importance to the morals. As a result present day young professionals need to be educated for the values. We teachers seldom find a disciple like Arjuna or Ek-Lavya . The present day students are very less empathetic towards their parents or teachers.
